Lighting The North: An Anthology Of Feminism And Cultural Diversity From Across The Nation (pre-order)

Canada thrives as a diverse country with a very unique culture. Lighting The North will help shed light on equali- ty, freedom, and what it means to be a woman in Canada. The struggles and unrecognized achievements we face as women are just as present today as they were in the past. The Women of the North share their secrets to their suc- cesses, the spirited stories of their failures, as well as in- credible tips and insights for thriving in our multicultural country. Are you a born and raised Canadian? Are you indigenous to this land? A newcomer to Canada? Do you hear stories of your elders’ fi ght for this land, or their journey to relo- cate to Canada? This book illustrates the diverse search for identity and belonging each woman faces and the collec- tive spirit she is building among her Northern sisters, the day-to-day grind, and the behind closed doors secrets we face in our nation.

Lighting the North was created by women who are entrepreneurs, business owners, Royal Canadian Navy, Army Veterans, health care practitioners, healers, inspirational speakers, and coaches. We aim to illustrate the diverse search for identity and belonging each woman faces, the collective spirit she is building amongst her Northers sisters, and the stigmas we face in our nation. We are all Canadian but are entwined with Kwakiutl First Nations, Scottish, Prussian, Rocky Bay First Nations, French, Ukranian, Polish, Russian, Dutch, Filipino, Chinese, Spanish, Indian, Bengali, and Czechoslovakian.

In the land of the strong, many of us have felt weak—disconnected, fearful, victimized––yet we remain courageous. In the land of the free, many of us have felt isolated—restricted, cautious, unwelcome––yet we remain hopeful.
— Lighting The North

Lighting the North is a beacon of courage and hope for union across Canada.
